Rob, Jen & Wilson welcome Emery!!

2:44pm Tuesday August 21, 2007, Jen gave birth to Emery Raine Slocumb. Emery was born 8lbs 20inches just 6 days before her due date.

Both mom & baby had a very good delivery and both are doing great. Emery is following in the foosteps of her older brother Wilson...eating every 4-5 hours with great sleeps in between. We are very blessed to have another great baby.

Wilson has taken to his little sister...helping mom with bottles, diapers, and giving kisses on the head.

All is good. We are getting used to the change and slowly things are beginning to settle back down a bit to give us some sense of normalsy.

The immediate future as far as touring is concerned is a bit unclear at the moment. We are finding our way as we move forward with the change.

Stay tuned to the website for concert dates.

More to come, but here are a couple pics of Emery!!

The Mill Top in June

Unfortunately we are not going to make the June 8/9 weekend at the Mill Top in St. Augustine, FL. We have decided to cancel the gigs that weekend. The drives are really wiping Jen out these days and we think it's best to keep the shows close to home until after the baby gets here.

As many of you know, when she was carrying Wilson, we were able to tour up until a month out from the due date. Not the case this time around.

Jen has been really hard core about the schedule, but we have to stop the travelling early. We will look forward to seeing you in the fall when we release our new record.

Recording Update

Things are moving forward on the recording front. The actual recording sessions were bumped in March and have now been bumped again. We were to start in Asheville, NC this week. We have decided to spend more time on pre-production, sending ideas back and forth with our producers over the internet. The release date has been pushed back to the Fall since we (Jen) will be delivering a baby sometime around the end of August first of September.

We are feeling really good about the new songs and are glad that we are spending more time with the pre-production and not being rushed to make a release date.

We will make frequent updates on the recording as things progress.....stay tuned.

MT gets hit with stomach flu...

Well, this has been a very bad 2 weeks for us. We were getting ready to go to NC to play over the easter weekend, and while getting packed Wilson starts throwing up. Rob had just been playing with him, so we thought it was just from being tossed around, but then the vomit continued to come. We had a good day of projectile vomit all over myself and thought maybe the next day he would be better and we could make it to Charlotte in time at least for 1 show. He seemed to do better over night, and we thought we were clear the next day. Again, we packed up and before we were out the door he was throwing up again. Poor thing. He ended up being sick for quite a few days with this thing. Easter Sunday, I then proceed to get the bug. Eight hours of throwing up every hour! It was horrible. We were supposed to leave for Canada on Monday, and now both Wilson and I were down with the stomach bug. Monday morning came and we decided to brave the drive (tipically a 16 hour drive). We hit traffic in a couple spots on the way and it ended up taking 18 hours. Straight through! We arrived at 6am and about a hour before we got there, Rob started feeling bad. We got to my parents house in Canada and brought the stomach bug too! We were only going to be there for a few days and the whole time Rob was down. He was going to be driving back to Alabama with my brother in law and 2 kids while my sister, Wilson and I were flying back down. My sister's family was coming for vacation in the south with us for 10 days. We had Rob's mom come in before we got back to de-bug the place, and of course she then got sick. This thing is a monster! Anyway, we were hoping that the bug was dead, but this morning Danielle, our niece started throwing up. How can this thing be stopped. Kris and Stu both have low immune systems from the liver transplant, so we are hoping they don't get sick. They really needed a nice vacation. Let's hope the bug stops here. Hope no one else gets it! ~Jen

iTunes Now Selling MT album, Still

In 2003 we were invited by Zoom Tone Records to come to NYC and record a live album in SACD format (Super Audio Compact Disc), which will play in any CD player. Supposedly if you have a SACD player the quality is all that much better.

The label's idea for the project was to record a "live in the moment" very acoustic record. We enlisted the help of our producers Chris Rosser & Jerry York to join us for these sessions. We all met in Asheville, NC at Chris' studio to rehearse songs and decide which songs we would record. Another idea the label had was to do an out of the box cover song, and thus was born our rendition of "Meet The Flintstones".

During these reheasals we also agreed on the cover art for the album, which is an actual painting done by Chris' brother n law, Allen Bentley, who was kind enough to let us use his art. Allen is an amazing artist in Philadelphia. Check out his work online.

The recording took place in a small church in Scarsdale, NY over two days. The label's idea for the sessions was to use two mics for the recording and that would be it. There would be no editing, no retakes. Just one shot at it!

And that is exactly what the album, Still, is. A very real, in the moment, acoustic album and it's now available for download on itunes and many more online digital retailers. This album is out of print, so the only way to get right now is through digital download.

2 Shows Cancelled this weekend

Friday was a complete nightmare, especially for Jen & Wilson. We were suppose to be in Dobson, NC on Friday and in Charlotte, NC. Circumstances beyond our control prevented that from happening.

Friday, 3:30 AM Jen & Wilson leave Hamilton, Ontario for the Buffalo airport. (This will be their 3rd attempt this week trying to catch a flight back to Atlanta) PS...(NEVER EVER, EVER FLY STAND BY).

They arrive in time for their 7am flight and get settle on the plane for the 45 min flight to Cleveland. As the plane taxi's on the run-way, the Pilot announces "we are 3rd for take" shortly after that, the pilot makes an announcement (we have to go back to the jet way because our 2nd ENGINE is NOT WORKING!)

The engine problem is corrected and they make it to Cleveland 2 hours late for their connection.

side note:
this happens to be the same day that the winter storm is hitting the northeast causing major delays at the NYC airports and several flight cancellations. So most flights going into Newark are now being diverted to CLEVELAND.

again....NEVER EVER FLY ON A STAND BY TICKET

There are several flights going to Atlanta that day, but with so many passengers coming in with cancelled flights, they are given priority over STAND BY PASSENGERS.

Remember Jen & Wilson have been in Cleveland since about 10 AM, up since 3:30AM.

At about 2 PM after not being able to get on 3 other flights, the agent tells her she is not getting out of Cleveland today and should make other plans.

So for the next 2 hours we are looking at all options to get her & Wilson home, but there just aren't any flights, except one flight leaving out of Akron, OH (40 miles south of Cleveland). If we could just get them on the shuttle they could take this flight. Well the shuttle doesn't leave ClE until 30 minutes before the flight and it's a good 60min drive, without rush hour traffic.

As I'm calling to give Jen the bad news, she is calling me to tell me that somehow a seat has opened up on the 4:00 flight and she has to go NOW! And for me to head to the Alanta airport!

And so sure enough, after a 1 hour delay, they arrive in Atlanta at about 7pm, about the time the music is suppose to start at the Wolfs Lair Winery.

After 2 days of rest, Jen & baby are fully recovered.

AGAIN, NEVER EVER, EVER FLY ON A STAND BY TICKET

BUF - ATL

Anyone else dealing with allergies? The weather here in Auburn has been really nice this week, but with that comes the pollen. We are not big fans of the pollen at all. In fact we should become spokesman for Claritan as it seems to be the only drug of choice to bring some kind of relief.

Jen & Wilson get into ATL late tonight, flying in from Buffalo. They have been in Canada for the past 10 days (trip was extended, must have been having too much fun!) visiting with family. They will be home for a day before we leave to play in NC this weekend. We are playing at the Wolf's Lair Winery in Dobson, NC on Friday starting at 7pm. If you are looking for a relaxing evening or romantic dinner, this is your spot. The restaurant is nestled back on a hill surrounded by vineyards. You literally drive through the vineyards to get to it. The food & atmosphere is very nice & of course you can't find a better wine. Look them up and make a reservation!

We will be celebrating St. Patricks Day in style in Charlotte, NC at the Evening Muse. One Charlottes Best Music Venues in the city. This show is expected to be at capacity so call today and make ticket arrangements. We will be playing with another group, Little Country Giants and you will definitely want to check them out!

Anyways, that is it for gigs this month, stay tuned for April/May, we have lots going on.

More to come,
MT

Video from The Oriental Theater in Denver

It's a little over a week now since we have gotten back from our tour out west. We all went out healthy and all came back with a cold. It started with Wilson and then went to Jen then Rob & Kim. I tend to believe it was the air conditioning in the hotel we stayed in Denver for 4 nights.

We played a really cool theater in Denver on Feb. 17 called The Oriental Theater. I think most all the folks at the show had just moved to Denver and had seen us in other parts of the country. Some were even from our homebase here in Auburn, AL!! Just goes to show you what a small world it is. So this video is a clip of a new song we have been working on titled "Why?". We have plans to begin recording our 8th studio project this Spring....ATTN: INVESTORS! There is still time to get in on the project if you are interested...email rob@marthastrouble.com for more info. So check out this clip and tell us what you think of the song.

Off to the airport

Last night we played at the Olde Auburn Ale House in Auburn, AL. Pretty good show in spite of the fact that Jen had a severe caugh. But somehow she managed to get through the night. It was nice to see some friends from Birmingham make the trek down for the show. And hey the Ale House has made improvements! Their stage is now lighted. It used to be that we would literally play in the dark, no kidding. So it was a nice for us to be able to see each other on stage!
Jen & Wilson went home to Ancaster, Ontario this morning to visit with Jen's family. It's all good except for the fact that we literally had to pack up our gear at the Ale House. Go home and unload it. Pack up Wilson & their luggage and leave for the ATL airport by 2:30 AM so they could catch a 6:15AM eastern time flight! They made the flight and beat the snow in Buffalo in time to get into Ancaster just fine. I made it home by 5:30 AM and had no trouble falling to sleep!
